Whether coeliac or gluten intolerant, eating out can be a bit of a 'mare sometimes – especially if the cafe you've decided to go to won't serve you unless you have a doctor's note.
But things have come on in leaps and bounds, and while we used to have to order the Caesar salad without croutons, some restaurants now have entirely gluten-free menus on request. Here are 10 of the best.
Gluten-free brunch that won't break the bank? This has to be tasted to be believed.
Two poached eggs with spinach, rocket, smoked salmon and lashings of hollandaise sauce on gluten free bread. Unbelievable scenes!
Get a side of french fries with garlic mayo if you're feeling like you deserve the extra cals.
Mounds of zesty slaw and rice with delicious shredded chicken and topped off with at least two avocados' worth of guac. This is so much more than a salad, it's a fancy burrito bowl if you will!
Also if you can't make it down to Staple Foods, you can always holla at them on Deliveroo and get it brought to you instead.
An Italian restaurant with a completely gluten free menu? It's a miracle! You can get pretty much anything you've been craving here - pizzas, pastas as well as risottos and salads.
The mixed antipasti board is particularly delicious and it comes with toasted GF bread to douse in olive oil - always a winner!
This is another spot that caters very well for gluten free humans.
They bake their own seedy bread in-house every day, and pretty much everything on the menu can be tailored for coeliacs.
Their falafel and hummus may contain the most garlic you'll ever encounter in one dish, but it's totally fucking worth stinking for the rest of the day.
Thankfully the Thai food gods decided that this dish should always be gluten free as the base ingredient is flat rice noodles.
Neon's Pad Thai is definitely the best one you can get in the city though - humungous portions with both prawns and chicken (no need to choose!), plenty of veg and crunchy peanuts.
Massive feed for €11 with the added bonus of free ice-cream if you eat in, or free prawn crackers if you get take out. (The prawn crackers are gluten free but they are cooked in the same oil as gluten-filled products.)
This authentic Italian restaurant in Rathmines does such amazing GF pizza you'll find yourself asking your server to double check that it's actually gluten free.
Plenty of different types to choose from but the Quattro Formaggi is particularly decadent - these deep dish pizzas will have you rolling home!
A relative newcomer to the city, their mains are very reasonably priced at €8 and a mere €2 can be added if you'd like chips on the side.
Their crispy chickpea cake is more like a guilt-free hashbrown served with roast peppers, grilled courgette, corleggy goat cheese, rocket leaves & chermoula dressing.
Once you've tried it, I guarantee you'll be back once a week to get your chickpea fix!
If you haven't checked out this burger joint in upstairs in Workman's, you're seriously missing out. Simple menu with great prices, and all toppings on their burgers are free.
They do a brilliant gluten free burger which comes wrapped in leaves of iceberg lettuce. Get the garlic butter fries on the side and you'll never have any more regrets as long as you live.
Thought all standard Chinese food was now off limits? Think again.
Mak has a full coeliac menu complete with gluten free calamari, gluten free battered prawns and so much more. You need never lament your gluten free life sentence ever again because the food here is just heavenly!
Fish & chips is one of those meals that I automatically cross out as a no-go for coeliacs, what with the flour-encrusted fish and all. However, the beautiful humans at Beshoff Bros have a great range of GF options meaning you can get your durty chipper fix whether hungover or just hungry.
Their gluten and wheat free range is available in their Mespil Road, Dame Street and Clontarf branches and all the food is prepared in a separate GF fryer. Delish!
