Traditional music is at the height of its revival, and this January sees the tenth edition of Temple Bar Tradfest take place. The festival has grown into quite the international affair, since its humble beginning back in 2006. Kicking off tomorrow, there's an insanely jam packed schedule of concerts, film screenings, workshops, gigs, impromptu trad sessions, discussions and food trails. The programme will host well established trad music artists as well as lesser known acts and up and coming artists who are waiting to discovered. The iconic RTÉ Radio One show will be broadcasting from under The Merchant's Arch in Temple Bar. Keith Hanrahan, the presenter, will be presenting an evening of chats with different musicians, as well as plenty of music and craic. The show will be broadcast live and tickets are free but be warned- previous Ceilí House events have been known to include impromptu ceilí dancing, so bring your dancing shoes.
Sari are a non-profit group who organise different events that aim to connect people from different cultures. This event has a star studded lineup including Mundy, Lisa O'Neill, Loah, Twin Headed Wolf, The Young Folk and many more. Tickets are €30 with all proceeds going to the Sari Fund for social integration.
Liam Ó Maonlaí's unique style of trad infused rock has gathered quite a following across the globe for the Hothouse Flowers. Having started out as teenage buskers on the streets of Dublin, years later the the infamous Hothouse Flowers will be performing a night of unforgettable music at St. Patrick's Cathedral.
Does the song 'Teenage Kicks' ring any bells? That was the Undertones. These guys formed in Derry in 1977 and are pretty much rock and roll legends at this point, this gig promises to be amazing.
This extremely talented piper is the only person in the history of Comhaltas Ceolteóirí Éireann to ever win four All-Ireland Titles on the same day. Since then her career has rocketed with concerts and appearances abroad, and a recent collaboration on the 'A New Dawn' CD.
