Have a Classic Vinyl Sunday with Nico and The Underground

This Sunday you can take a step back in time, and submerge yourself in the 1960s. Classic Vinyl Sundays are a collective that host old-fashioned listening parties once a month, where they play a whole record from start to finish on a top notch sound system. Their last playing party was to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'. This time around Classic Vinyl Sundays will be paying tribute to Lou Reed with a special playing of the infamous 'The Velvet Underground & Nico' which was first released in 1967.

With the help of Tower Records, Classic Vinyl Sundays have gotten their hand on a perfect copy of the record in pristine condition. The listening party will take place in The Twisted Pepper this Sunday evening on their state of the art sound system. The evening will kick off with a discussion panel on the record and the legacy that surrounds it. They will look at the dream-like, hallucinogenic style of music, the artwork done by none other than Andy Warhol himself, and the somewhat controversial subject matter of the album. This promises to be an enlightening and lively debate, with scope for audience participation as well.

This is a very unique style event for Dublin, and one I hope to see more of. Classic Vinyl Sunday are creating communal listening spaces and promoting a deeper look at great records from days gone by. As an added bonus, all attendees will receive a free 3FE coffee or glass of wine upon entry, and rumour has it there will be free bananas for all on the night! Tickets are a tenner, and it kicks off at 5pm so you'll be home well in time for bedtime (it being a school night and all).
