Luas Extension Hopes Would Answer The Prayers Of Many People On The Northside

Some Dublin locals are hoping that the new Luas Line can be extended out as far as Finglas after a campaign has been set up. 

Although it has been announced that a bus service will act as a connection point for the suburb and the Cross City line, many people are wondering if it's possible to bring the line even further.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Paul McAuliffe is behind the campaign and website which highlights the need for the extension and has already collected signatures for his online petition.

On the website, the Councillor states that: 

"With the recent opening of the new Luas line to Broombridge, many in Dublin 11 have been asking, why stop there? The Luas line which runs from Bridesglen in south Dublin to Broombridge in Cabra links with the red line. It will also in time link with the Metro North.

"As part of the future development of light rail service in the City, we are calling on the proposal identified in the North Dublin Transport Study as LT2 to be implemented and for the Luas to be extended through the Dublin 11 area to link with the Metro North at the M50."

A proposal for the Luas Cross City to serve Finglas in 2015 was initially scrapped but the Councillor believes that more and more people are now choosing to live in Finglas and extending the Luas to Dublin 11 would provide a long term solution to traffic problems in the capital.
