Ah, the blessed Rock Shandy.
That beautiful mixture where the Club Orange meets the Club Lemon and the two go for a dance in a glass.
It's cured many hangovers and quenched the thirst of thousands of Irish men and women over the years.
Rock Shandy is as Irish as potatoes, Bono and Croke Park and sure wasn't the bloody thing invented here in Dublin.
According to the old C&C website:
"A former Managing Director of C&C, Mr. Frank Murphy, was a member of the Blackrock Swimming Club that used to go swimming in the open sea baths in Blackrock.
"After training on a Sunday morning they would go to O’Rourkes pub in Blackrock for a drink. Their favourite drink was a combination (shandy) of Club Orange and Club Lemon from whence came the name, Rock Shandy."
What a darlin' idea.
Now, what's the most you'd fork out for a price of Rock Shandy. You'd be awful shocked if you weren't getting at least €2 in change from your fiver.
But, what if you had to add that extra €2 to your fiver?
Yep, that's what Lovin Dublin reader, Ciarán McKenna, was forced to put up with when he wanted a glass of mix.
He told us that this particular drink in the Kingswood hotel had to be "the most expensive Rock Shandy in the whole of Ireland" and said the price was "shocking".
"We called Citywest Hotel and The Anvil restaurant, both nearby to the Kingswood Hotel. Citywest charges €3.10 and The Anvil €2.90
"The restaurant manager [of the Kingswood] got back to me and said it's down to the 'sugar tax'... like, seriously!!!!
"The absolute most anywhere would charge would be €3.50, it's the same as a coke/7up etc.
"I can't believe the manager tried to justify it by saying it was the sugar tax and to add insult to injury said 'next time you're in let me know I'll make sure you get a nice table'!!!"
Ah here, this isn't on.
