There Are Plans For A New Wetherspoons Near Camden Street And Locals Aren’t Happy About It

Local residents in the Camden Street area of Dublin 2 are opposing plans for a new €4m JD Wetherspoon pub, and an accompanying hotel with 98 bedrooms. 

Wetherspoon have set their sights on the former homeless hostel at Camden Hall, directly opposite the Bleeding Horse at the top of Camden St. This is all part of a grand plan to open 30+ pubs in Ireland over the next five years.

According to the Independent, a number of objections have been lodged against the plans for the pub and hotel.

"enough is enough, the area is at tipping point and already fast becoming another Temple Bar - great for revellers and operators but not so good for everyone else".

Other residents have argued that installing a pub of this kind would create high levels of noise disturbances for residents nearby. A decision is due next month, and if the plans get the go ahead 100 jobs will be created.

However, we can't help but hope that Camden Hall could be reinstated as a homelessness hostel considering the housing deficit the city is facing at the moment.
