Most people will say they love Chinese food, but then find that they can probably only name a handful of dishes - all of which are Irish spins on Asian cuisine.
Last Thursday I was lucky enough to celebrate Chinese New Year at Victoria Chinese restaurant in Monkstown, which was my first time there. As I left I was already looking forward to my next visit, and here's why...
If you're in the mood for a 3-in-1, this is not the place.
Instead you'll find countless dishes you mightn't even have heard of, that taste absolutely unbelievable. Take this stuffed duck baked in lotus leaves for example...
Possibly the most deliciously garlicky thing I have ever eaten (and that's saying something!). Order two portions - you won't regret it!
It's fortuitous that Victoria is located beside the sea, because they're able to offer fresh fish dishes like black sole and sea bream served multiple different ways.
Not only are they super friendly but they go above and beyond to help their curstomers, particularly if you have any dietary requirements.
Speaking of dietary requirements, most of the dishes on the menu are gluten free. Plus if you ask very nicely they'll even amend gluten-filled ones to suit.
I was even lucky enough to get a batch of gluten free spring rolls whipped up for me! Just make sure you let your server know at the start of the meal.
You know that kind of panic you get when ordering, wondering if there'll be enough food to go around? No need for this here.
Trust your server - the portions are massive, plus everyone knows it's more fun when you get to taste a little bit of everything.
