Concerns have been raised over an animal shelter in Dublin over claims that it is neglecting animals in its care.
A petition online states that it wants to "shutdown" Ashton Dog Pound in Castleknock.
The petition - which can be found here - states that:
"Ashton Dog Pound is in Dublin, Ireland where many dogs are left in there own faeces with no food or water and cold cells with no bedding. Ashton Dog pound also have put down healthy non aggressive dogs in the last couple of years and is yet getting worse.
This has been going on for years now and something has to be done for these petrified animals that only want to be loved and cared for. Most people who visit Ashton Dog Pound have the same response that this place should be shut down.
The dogs are also left ungroomed and there nails uncut. This is no place for any animal, the people that work here have no love for these animals and only care about having a “job”.
A video was posted to Facebook which shows a dog warden working for Ashton Dog Pound dragging a dog violently by the neck and throwing her into a vehicle. A woman spent hours trying to save the neglected dog and was told to calm down after becoming hysterical over the way the dog was treated. Is this really the way that an animal should be treated?! If this is the way the wardens treat dogs while in public view, imagine how the dogs are treated when no one is watching.
This is going on long enough and we all need to do something for these poor animals. I know not everyone is able to adopt a dog because of circumstances, but please at least sign this petition. It would mean so much to every dog lover and every dog in Ashton Dog Pound. Let’s get all these dogs the love and care they deserve.

The petition has already gotten nearly 9,000 signatures at the time of writing and has a target of 10,000.
