Puppy Smuggling On The Rise At Dublin Port – Here’s How You Can Help

Dogs are being seized at least once per week at Dublin Port.

According to Newstalk.com, 18 more dogs and puppies were seized by Gardaí in Dublin Port two days ago – the third seizure in just six days.

The DSPCA are urging anyone with information or suspicions to report illegal dog smuggling. They are holding a conference to raise awareness and educate people on the severity of this problem in Ireland.

Brian Gillen, head of the DSPCA, told Newstalk that puppy breeding within Ireland has increased greatly, and referred to Ireland as the "puppy farm capital of Europe".

This industry reportedly breeds over 30,000 puppies per year, with the intent of sale, and is generating up to €20 million.

The DSPCA aim to put puppy farms out of business by disrupting them in the process of sales, and further preventing their operations.
