Last week, we brought you the news that Dublin Airport was introducing new electronic passport-reading machines which would be self service and in fact would make getting through the airport, just as safe but a lot quicker.
However, The Irish Times is reporting that glitches and teething problems with the machines could possibly make getting through Dublin Airport a nightmare for those going to or from the Airport this Christmas.
It is being reported that just three days after the machines were introduced at the Airport, there were serious delays at Terminal One.
A portion of the machines were functioning extremely slowly before eventually rejecting a large number of passports.
The e-gates were installed at the Airport by the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS), which operates under the Department of Justice.
Dublin Airport said that they would have additional customer service team members working throughout the Christmas period to ensure a smoothing running order at the Airport.
In a statement, the Department of Justice said: “The question of queues or congestion in the areas leading to the immigration halls are matters appropriate to Dublin Airport who manage those areas.”
It said: “Revised queue layouts were deployed in the immigration halls in advance of the deployment of the e-gates and these are under review by Dublin Airport to achieve the maximum efficiency in the space available.”
