This Photographer Spent Two Years Perfectly Capturing The Essence Of Dublin’s North Wall

They say you can't truly know a city, until you know the people. And this is something that photographer Paul Kelly has dedicated two years to, in his community of North Wall taking pictures of people working, playing and living in the area. 

With photos of everything from bonfire collections to favourite shopkeepers, fancy dress competitions to 80th birthday parties - Paul Kelly has managed to beautifully capture the heart of the North Wall community in his work.

Darkie RIP

Given six months to live, two years later Darkie was still throwing afternoon tea sessions with the girls.

Empires

This was the first image captured for the series. In some ways it is symbolic of the nature of the interface between an indigenous community and the emergence of an expanding financial services centre and an expanding demographic.

The K&A

Gerry Fay runs the most popular local shop in the area. His passion for the community is apparent. If you are looking for a welcome in North Wall, or just great value on fresh produce the K&A should be your first stop.

Paul Kelly's North Wall Series is an ongoing project that is on exhibition in CHQ until Tuesday 19 April, and will be popping up again in other locations over the next few months.
